History

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Airlangga University, is the eighth faculty within the Airlangga University system and was established in 1982. The Department of Physics is one of four departments within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, occupying a new building on Campus C UNAIR covering an area of 1440 m2, with 25 faculty members holding master’s and doctoral degrees, as well as 2 professors. To carry out activities, particularly those related to staff development and laboratory enhancement, the Department of Physics received equipment assistance from Japan (OECF-II) in 1988, assistance from the Basic Sciences Development project in 1994, and assistance from the ADB in 1999 for equipment and advanced studies. With the equipment obtained from these sources, efforts have been made to maximize their utilization for educational, research, and community service activities. The readiness of the Physics department in fulfilling its educational mission has been recognized by the government, which granted it accredited status with an A rating in 1999. This accreditation status has had an impact, leading to success in winning the Semi-QUE Block Grant (1999-2003) and PHK-A2 (2006-2009), with the aim of enhancing relevance, efficiency, productivity, and academic atmosphere within the Physics department.
